First off, I'll just say that this picture was entirely for my own self-indulgence. Az playing the cello is one of those funny little things that I make up about him, and generally accept as being true in casual conversation, but don't actually put in the story. Kind of like his fondness for Patsy Cline. I fear that it's a bit Gary Stu-ish for him to play the cello, because it is my very favorite instrument, as well as because there is really no reason for him to play it within the context of the story aside from gratification of my own silly romanticism. Plus, since he's already a painter (a fact that does play a part in the story), the Gary Stu-ometer is going haywire already, so I might as well not push it.

NOW. The picture itself. While I was painting this, I realised something: Az is, by far, the hardest character of mine to draw. He has all the worst elements: black feathered wings, a complicated system of roots, a skeletal torso, excessively long fingers...I swear I'm not a masochist, but you'd think otherwise looking at Az.

Also, before anyone says anything- I realise that things about the cello may be off. The cello itself, the way he's holding it, the way his fingers are positioned...I don't care. I don't play the cello. I used a couple of reference photos, but I didn't get really nitpicky about it. As I said before, this is mainly just so I could see Az with a cello because I'm a crazy person with no life. Technicalities mean shit to me. YAY! Az with a cello. See?

And while I'm on the subject of Az with a cello: "Don't Fear the Reaper" with female vocals and a motherfucking cello. It's like magic.

Wait. Am I a total fucking nerd for having this picture as my desktop wallpaper? WHO CARES IT'S AZ WITH A CELLO

You seem to have pulled everything I love into a single creature--ravens (wings), dead trees (roots), and stringed instruments (cello, obviously). I think the only thing missing is a sword, haha! Anyway, great job in the somber piece. The expression on the character's face makes it so believable. I can almost hear a low minor melody...

He LOOKS like he would play the cello actually. At least to ME he does. lol.

Haha, Gary Stu-ometer. XD We certainly wouldn't want that, now would we? But really, I think his appearance and personality would balance all this ability out, wouldn't you say? Afterall, he IS the creator and all. Absolutely love his face in this depiction; very emotional.
