I did this for DA's "Draw This Again" contest. When I first read about it, I knew I would give it a go, since I had been considering redoing another old painting, anyway. But since I'd already redone most of my old favorites, I had to do a bit of digging to find another one, so I picked this one:
What a difference two years can make, huh?
I took this opportunity to really get in some practice painting what =HotaruThodt has so aptly dubbed "spacey shit", which you may have noticed I love to include in my AE art. As to why I do that...I guess I've always thought it appropriate, in relation to the universal nature of death; everything from the smallest microorganism to the universe itself will eventually die. The vastness of space emphasizes the insignificance and brevity of human life, and it remains such a mystery to us, just like death. Things like that seem to be more representative of death to me than the usual skulls and tombstones.
The difference is just...wow. Funny, this exact image (the original I mean) was what inspired me to make your commission the way I did. Isn't Spacey Shit great?
